Both teams got wins in their openers. Denver got bet up to the point of turning into the favourite against Portland, who I thought would win.

Phoenix started at home and rolled the Kings, a team most see as higher than them in the Western Conference. Maybe we were wrong about them.

Denver looks like it is picking up where it left off as a contender. Perhaps to win it all.

Phoenix Suns

Not only did Phoenix win their opener but they dominated. Of course it is a sample size of one but maybe things are brighter in the desert than expected.

A couple of stats stand out from the win, starting with DeAndre Ayton, who has 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those are good numbers and so are the four blocks he got.

Devin Booker was super efficient with 22 points on just 17 shots, he made 10. What was also a good sign is that he had 10 assists. That means he getting the ball and making good decisions.

New point guard Ricky Rubio had a double-double too with 11 points and 11 assists. He did not shoot well but ran the offense effectively.

Kelly Oubre only made one three pointer but still collected 21 points and 9 boards, showing the versatility that many like about him. Those four might be more ready to win than previous though.

The bench was solid too with Jevon Carter playing harassing defense and making three three pointers.

Maybe we can give Phoenix the benefit of the doubt.

Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets might have got an early signature win, beating Portland on the road to start the season.

Nikola Jokis began the season where he left off with a double-double, 20/11, but with no high assist total. He was one of 7 players that made multiple three for the Nuggets in the win.

Denver was on fire from deep, nailing 56%. The only guy missing the mark was Gary Harris but there is no reason for concern there. Denver played good perimeter D too limiting Portland to just 25% from behind the arc.

This is the first home game of the season so there should be some buzz. Denver is always a great home side to back but that is a hefty line if Phoenix is truly improved. How much is altitude going to be a thing.

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:

I like the Nuggets mix a lot this season but at the same time I think they are getting a little too much respect in this spot. They can’t shot the lights out every game.

I am not sure what Phoenix gets from their depth players over the course of the season but right now those guys are playing with some confidence. Look for a hard-fought loss.
