DETROIT PISTONS VS. INDIANA PACERS – 10/23/2019 FREE PICK & NBA BETTING PREDICTION

Wednesday, October 23 finds Eastern Conference and Central Division rivals the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers facing each other in their opening match of the 2019-20 season.

Last season, the squads played four times with the Pacers winning three of the four contests. The Pacers hold the all-time record having bested the Pistons in 100 of their 194 matches.

Detroit Pistons

Blake Griffin reminded everyone why he is an elite talent but having to carry the majority of the load for the Pistons caught up to him and he limped into the postseason. This summer he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

Last season Griffin set a career-high in scoring (24.5 points) to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists.After a season where he played in 75 games, he begins this year on the disabled list.

Detroit has to figure out whether the Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin experiment can work. The concern is Drummond can opt into his final contract year this summer which is worth $28,751,775 million next season.

Likewise, Reggie Jackson needs to stay healthy and prove he can lead this Pistons squad as the starting point guard. Detroit will also be making a decision about his services this summer when he hits free agency.

Derrick Rose was signed this summer and could make that conversation interesting if he continues to rediscover the form that brought him a Most Valuable Player Award.

As for injuries both Jackson and Markieff Morris are dealing with lower-back tightness with the former probable and the latter questionable.

Sekou Doumbouya is out with a concussion and Griffin won’t return until early November due to a left hamstring injury and posterior knee soreness.

Indiana Pacers

After Victor Oladipo got hurt it was presumed the Pacers would fall out of the playoffs but Nate McMillan motivated his squad to maintain their grittiness and defensive intensity.

It earned the Pacers another playoff berth but they were so fatigued by that point they were easily dispensed of by the Boston Celtics in a sweep.

This past offseason Indiana suffered a huge roster turnover with five free agents signing elsewhere including Bojan Bogdanovic, Thaddeus Young, and Corey Joseph. In addition, Darren Collison retired and Tyreke Evans was suspended.

In response, the franchise made a big move landing Malcolm Brogdon who should be an ideal backcourt partner for Oladiopo when he returns. Dipo’s timetable for return is not definitive but Indiana hopes for an early December return.

Other additions include TJ Warren and Jeremy Lamb who will help bolster the offense.
