The Win Streak Is Over

The Arizona Coyotes started their season out slowly but then they rattled off four wins in a row. Well, that win streak is now over as they lost to the New York Islanders last night by a score of 4-2. It was the first time all year that the Coyotes have allowed more than three goals in a game and just the 1st time all year that they have allowed more than two goals in a non-OT game. The Coyotes have been tough in the crease and they have needed as the offense has been below average. Arizona did not 16 goals during their four-game winning streak, but they were able to put up just two in the loss to the Islanders. Scoring their goals was Michael Grabner, which was his 1st of the year and Conor Garland, which was his 4th of the year. Absorbing the loss was Darcy Kuemper, who allowed three goals on 21 shot attempts to fall to 4-3 on the year.

Antti Raanta is slated to get the start in this one and he has gone 1-1 with a 2.43 GAA so far this year. In his career, he has gone 36-28 with a 2.54 GAA on the road and 10-9 with a 2.05 GAA during the month of October, plus 4-1 with a 2.17 GAA against the Devils. The Coyotes enter this game ranked 18th in the league in scoring at 2.89 gpg, while on the defensive end of the ice, they are ranked 3rd in goals allowed at 2.11 gpg

Are The Devils Getting On Track?

Two years ago, the New Jersey Devils made the postseason for the first time since 2011/12, but last year they had a rough season and missed out on the NHL's second season. The Devils were touted as one of the best teams in the league this year, but they began the season with six straight losses. New Jersey has begun to turn the corner as they have won their last two games in a row. They have a solid young corps of players including a couple of first-round drafts picks in Nico Hischier (2017) and Jack Hughes (2019). The Devils are off a 1-0 win over the Canucks and it was Hughes' first NHL game. He scored their lone goal in the win. That was a nice way to start his career and he gives the Devils hope moving forward. Hirschier missed that game with an upper-body injury, but he is expected to be available for this game. New Jersey has also added Wayne Simmonds and Nikita Gusev and with Hughes now playing, they will be a team to watch the rest of the season.

Snatching up the win against the Canucks was Mackenzie Blackwood, who stopped all 25 shots that he faced for his 1st shutout of the year and 3rd of his career. he is now 2-3 with a 3.15 GAA on the year, including 2-2 with a 2.03 GAA here at home. In his career, he has gone 8-5 with a 2.11 GAA here at the Prudential Center and 2-3 with a 3.15 GAA during the month of October, plus 1-0 with a 0.74 GAA in two games against the Coyotes. The Devils enter this game ranked 28th in the league in scoring at 2.38 gpg and 29th in goals allowed at 3.63 gpg.
